Why recruitment advertising has gone back to 1980

The other day I was reading that the number of recruitment advertisements is now at an all-time high with year-on-year growth. A recent Warc report shows a 3.9% growth last year. However, not surprisingly, the recession of recent years brought a steady decline in recruitment advertising expenditure from £354M in Q2 2008 to around a third of that in Q4 2010. Annual recruitment adspend was c. £1.2 bn in 2008, diminishing to around £500M in 2013.

BEHAVIOURAL ECONOMICS - An Introduction

I recently completed the IPA Foundation certificate and one of the most interesting topics covered by the course was Behavioural Economics. This popular theory has had a huge influence on public policy in the UK over the last decade, and in the business world has been championed by some high profile members of the advertising industry, including Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman of Ogilvy & Mather Group UK and former President of the IPA.

Prince's Trust shoot at Eastnor Castle

On 25th April, we entered a team of 4 into the annual Princes Trust Charity clay pigeon shoot, which was held at Eastnor Castle in Ledbury. Driving up the never-ending drive, it was hard not to be impressed by the sheer scale of the castle and grounds. Eastnor is set in 5,000 acres and is home to the Hervey-Bathurst family. It was built by the 2nd Baron (Lord) Somers, later 1st Earl, between 1810 and 1824. He built it to impress his contemporaries and impressive it is!

Jane Maycock, HR Director, Siniat

I started life in Auditing, moved quickly (for obvious reasons) into a Sales Analyst role working all over the country for a FMCG manufacturing company, and had a short period with an IT company before moving into retail. I came to Siniat (formerly Lafarge Plasterboard) 19 years ago – it's amazing how time flies!

Pete's birthday celebrations

Pete turned 50 this year and we couldn’t resist a night out to celebrate! We managed to keep it all under wraps until about a month before the big day when Pete started asking us all (on a daily basis) where we were going. He then tried another tactic, saying he’d worked out where we were going to see if we would blurt it out, we never realised how much he really hates been kept in the dark!

New media packages

We have realised for a while now that a few of our clients have been using LinkedIn to fill senior roles, sometimes also advertising on either the Sunday Times online or Exec-Appointments (but rarely on both) but, having tried one approach or the other, are still finding it difficult to generate a sufficient level of quality response in time.
